DROVE UP FROM SCHAUMBURG, CHICAGO TO SEE THE NEW CARS FOR THE FIRST TIME AT SUMMERFEST MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
LISTENING ALL DAY TO THEIR MUSIC, GETTING PUMPED PRIOR TO THE SHOW. I WAS VERY EXCITED AND NERVOUS ALL AT THE SAME TIME. GOT TO MEET MY IDOLS OF ROCK AND ROLL: ELLIOT, GREG, TODD, KASIM AND PRAIRIE, THROUGH THE THE NEW CARS WEBSITE MEET AND GREET.
I HAD BROUGHT VINYL COPIES OF ELLIOT'S AND GREG'S SOLO ALBUMS..TOOK A PICTURE WITH BOTH OF THEM HOLDING UP THEIR ALBUMS. HOW AWESOME!! IT GETS BETTER. DURING THE SHOW I MADE IT UP TO THE FRONT ROW, I WAS ON A MISSION TO CATCH ELLIOT EASTON'S GUITAR PICK, BECAUSE I HAD AN IDEA THAT ELLIOT I THINK WOULD LOVE. I BROUGHT MY DIGITAL CAMERA AND TOOK A LOT OF PICTURES. AT THE END OF THE SHOW. ELLIOT THREW ME HIS GUITAR PICK. CAN'T EXPLAIN THE EXCITEMENT! THE SHOW WAS ONE OF THE BEST LIVE SHOWS I HAD EVER SEEN! THEIR MUSIC BRINGING BACK LOTS OF GREAT MEMEORIES OF ME GROWING UP.
GETS EVEN BETTER....I HAD MADE A T-SHIRT WITH ELLIOT'S GUITAR PICK ON IT. I SIGNED UP AGAIN FOR THE MEET AND GREET. WENT TO SEE THEM AGAIN TWO MONTHS LATER IN ROCKFORD AT DAVIS MEMORIAL PARK. BROUGHT THE T-SHIRT AND A COUPLE OF MY FAVORITE LIVE ACTION SHOTS OF ELLIOT TO THE SHOW. I RAN INTO THE LEGENDARY GREG HAWKES OUTSIDE THE VENUE. HE REMEMBERD ME, THAT'S PRETTY COOL. DURING THE MEET AND GREET ELLIOT SIGNED ONE OF MY FAVORITE PICTURES OF HIM.
TO TOP OFF THE NIGHT, AMANDA TOOK MY PICTURE FOR THE WEBSITE "SET LIST".

Remember hearing "Not Tonight" on the radio, thinking wow that sounds like the Cars, my favorite group, but I know all their songs and never heard this one. All my friends say they even think of me when they hear a Cars' song, so you can imagine my surprise to hear they're back as The New Cars and playing in Chicago at Ravinia. I gathered a group of friends, many who also saw The Cars back in the day, and had a fun time picnicking and partying in the grass. There was just one thing wrong -- we couldn't hear them well or see them at all from where we were sitting. Still had a great time and even snuck in the pavilion for the encore "Let the Good Times Roll"!!!
Saw the New Cars again at the Chicago House of Blues, this time stood right in front of the stage and had so much fun flirting with Kas, darn I couldn't catch that pic!!!!!!!! Loved every minute of the show and definitely had to see them again when they came to Milwaukee Summerfest this summer. Had a fantastic time at that show too, and stood up on the bench and danced and sang to every song and felt like I was 20 something again (sorry to the people behind me that told me to sit down -- I told them to stand up!!!!!!) Again I still couldn't catch a guitar pic.
Having so much fun at the last shows, I had to see my favorite band again and scored 2nd row center tickets to The New Cars show in Rockford, IL. I live in a suburb of Chicago and Rockford is about a 90 minute drive. My son was going to go with me but was scheduled to work (he never usually has to work on a Saturday). My friends were going to go with me but they had a death in the family and actually that day I went to the funeral too, bummer; I really needed to see The New Cars to cheer me up, but no one was available to go with me. I finally convinced my son to take off -- I couldn't not go when I had 2nd row tickets!!!!! We were running late but finally made it to the festival, found parking okay, then I had to go to the bathroom bad and found a bar on the walk to the fest. It definitely was a neighborhood biker bar and we got allot of stares, but everyone was cool to us, thank God! As we got to the fest gates, the l ady said we were on the wrong side and would have to pay extra to get in. I showed her our tickets and said we were running late for the show and wouldn't have time to enjoy the rest of the fest, and after talking to her supervisor, let us in and warned us we had a long walk. After all these obstacles, we finally made it to our seats and someone was sitting in them! No problem, they moved, we got drinks and WOW what a show!!! Was a little disappointed at the very beginning that TNC didn't start out with "Hello Again" or do any of their new songs; however the bands' energy and Elliot's guitar playing blew me away!!! The show was amazing -- at the end of the festival fireworks TNC took the stage and the real fireworks began with "Let's Go" -- my theme song! It seems each show I see just keeps getting better (missed Kas but Atom was great too!) Also missed that darn elusive pic again -- one of these days............
Thanks New Cars for making me feel like I'm 25 again and please come back to Chicago in 2008!!! It was a long cruise to Milwaukee & Rockford but well worth it. My 22 year old son loved the show too and promises to go again with me next time. DON'T CHA STOP -- I LIKE THE NIGHT LIFE BABY!!!!! Besides I still want that pic!!!!
