CLEVELAND -- Ever imagine playing guitar with members of Guns n' Roses, AC-DC, Megadeth or Deep Purple?
A dozen Northeast Ohio amateur musicians got the chance Wednesday at a one-day Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp sponsored by the House of Blues at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
"They pull the best out of you," said 45-year-old Darrell Russell, who's been playing guitar since he was 15. "When they hear you doing a good job they're quick to point it out and say, 'That's great, do it again.'"
Camp counselors include Chris Slade of AC/DC, Elliot Easton of The Cars, Gilby Clarke of Guns'n Roses and Grammy award-winning Aerosmith producer Mark Hudson.
"We teach them in one day to kinda put a band together and give them all the knowledge we can, cause it's not just playing good," Hudson said, "it's acting good, it's being solid and knowing when to play and when not to play."
Hudson said most campers have no idea of the work involved in making rock music at a high professional level.
"They don't really understand that in a room you spend five hours learning to go, 'bomp, bomp, bomp,'" Hudson said. "But it has to be fun, too. If it's not fun, you should have another job."
Campers paid $2,000 to live their fantasy, which includes playing on stage with the professionals at the House of Blues as openers for Wednesday night's Extreme show.
The Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp will play shows in 15 cities through August.
